Ann Arbor, Michigan is a Transition town!

As our community comes together to face the challenges of peak oil (end of cheap oil), climate change, and economic instability, Transition Ann Arbor cultivates and collaborates with local efforts to:

  • Build resilience
  • Relocalize
  • Unleash the creative genius of our community as we transition to a low-energy future

In May 2009, Transition Ann Arbor became the 26th "official" Transition Initiative in the U.S. (and the 161st in the world).
Check out some of our recent press coverage:

We are part of
The Transition Towns Movement:
Bringing the head, heart and hands of communities
together to make the transition to life beyond cheap oil

Four premises of the Transition Towns movement:

  • That life with dramatically lower energy consumption is inevitable, and that it's better to plan for it than to be taken by surprise.

  • That our communities presently lack the resilience to enable them to weather the severe energy shocks that will accompany Peak Oil.

  • That we have to act collectively, and we have to act now.

  • That by unleashing the collective genius of those around us to creatively and proactively design our energy descent, we can build ways of living that are more connected, more enriching and that recognize the biological limits of our planet.
